It’s been burning for a while | Chris Pierce | Playing For Change
(Playing For Change) Today, we share a powerful song performed live from home by our brother and friend Chris Pierce; written by him and Mark Malone. Chris performed this song for the first time during his live stream performance on our YouTube Channel, and it resonated with us as we face even more challenging times amid the racial injustices that continue to plague our world.
It’s been burning for a while
“An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.”
-Nina Simone
“This song was written in memory of George Floyd and all those whose lives have been affected by abusive, excessive, and inhumane force. The lyric, wrapped around a thought Malcolm X expressed many years ago, is about the current and historic storm engulfing our nation and world. The melody and chord structure are in the spirit and structure of African-American work and protest songs. This song is written as a call, in the enduring hope of a response,” says Chris.
We must embrace each other and realize that our differences contribute to our beauty and much like a puzzle, fit together perfectly to create a masterpiece. Together, we can be the change we seek in this world for we are all brothers and sisters in one race — the HUMAN RACE.
Dedicated to the memory of the many lives lost during the Tulsa Race Massacre that took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma from May 31st – June 1st, 1921.
Inspire and connect the world through music
Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.
