(Uplift) It’s time to close the orgasm gap. Why do girls feel empowered to engage in sexual activity but not to enjoy it? For three years, author Peggy Orenstein interviewed girls aged 15 to 20 about their attitudes toward, and experiences of, sex. What she found was that young women may feel entitled to engage in sexual behaviour, but don’t feel entitled to enjoy it.
She says pleasure is largely missing from their sexual encounters and calls on us to close the ‘orgasm gap’ by talking candidly with our girls from an early age about sex, bodies, pleasure, and intimacy.
Today, it seems media and internet are the new street corner educating our children about sex. It’s time we educate young people so they engage in sex safely, ethically, but also enjoyably.
A thought provoking and important talk about empowering women’s capacity for and right to enjoy sexual pleasure.
