Its simple to make organic herbal cough drops
Cough drops from the drugstore are expensive. These organic herbal cough drops are much more effective, inexpensive, and easy to make… plus they are organic and better for you.
And these organic herbal cough drops keep well sealed in a jar in a cool dry place for a very long time.
Make them ahead of time… so you have them when you need them.
Steps for making organic herbal cough drops
Ingredients:
2 1/2 – Cups filtered water
2 – Cups of Organic Honey
5 – Teaspoon of herbs – use one teaspoon of each – slippery elm, chamomile, eucalyptus leaves, licorice root, and mullein.
Candy thermometer and candy molds
Optional – You can add different types of flavourings such as cinnamon bark and lemon rind or whatever you like to make it taste different.
Optional – And you can also add a small amount of natural food colour if you want them to be red or any other colour you like.
Procedure
Take 2 1/2 cups of water and bring it to a boil in a medium sauce pan keep stirring and do not let burn… and add your herbs, I recommend using whole herbs such as slippery elm, chamomile, eucalyptus, licorice root, and mullein.
Add these to your water and let them boil down.
Put the remaining 2 cups of water through a fine mesh strainer.
Then take the 2 cup of herbal water and add 2 cups of organic honey.
Bring to a boil until it reaches 300 degrees with a candy thermometer.
Now pour into a silicon candy molds and let cool completely and remove from the molds.
If they are sticky dust them with a little rice flour.
Then you can individually wrap them in waxed paper.
Or you can take a cookie sheet and spray it with a small amount of oil of your choice… and pour your herbal syrup on it and let it cool slightly.
When you can touch your cooled herbal cough remedy without getting burned, form it into balls and then let them cool completely on parchment paper, and then if need be… dust them with rice flour.
Then you can individually wrap them in waxed paper to make wonderful cough drops.
These organic herbal cough drops also make nice gifts especially for someone who’s not feeling well.
These drops work well for congestion, sore throats, and for that nagging cough.
The whole process from start to finish should not take more than about an 1 hour.
