The magic of Christmas

(OMTimes | Jeni Powell) Take yourself back to the magic of early childhood, to Christmas Eve. Excitement abounds, there is a sense of joy, fun, anticipation and pure magic in the air.

We believe in magic

We hang our stockings up by the fireplace and are told that “if we are good, Santa will bring us lots of presents.” These aren’t any old presents, oh no, these are the things that you have wished for all year, and Santa is no ordinary man. He can squeeze down chimneys, has elves help him make the presents and delivers these to your door by a flying sleigh pulled by a herd of reindeer.

Our imagination then becomes reality in our minds when we personalize this further and give the reindeer names. I mean, who hasn’t heard of Rudolph? Reinforcing this reality again, we place a drink out for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph. Our belief is further compounded when we awaken in the morning to find our stockings bulging with presents. Santa has been here; the magic is real!

As a child, anything is possible. We believe in magic and all that we cannot see, reinforcing the knowing that we all came into this world with. The knowing that our so called imaginary friends are that of Spirit; the knowing that anything is possible; the knowing that science cannot prove everything. Blissfully happy and unaware that our imagination and sixth sense will one day be questioned, that we will be told, “If you cannot verify this, then it does not exist.”

Magic and belief structure

Our beliefs are created by our perceived experiences and how they are registered at the time. When we are young, we have no barriers or boundaries to what we believe can exist. Many sensitives see and hear Spirit and enjoy life with their connection to these energies. This is something that we all have when we incarnate. When another person tells us, “Don’t be silly, your imaginary friend doesn’t exist, you are seeing things,” then that creates a belief that things we perceive to see are not real unless adults can see them too. Subsequently, as a child, we now dismiss those images that we truly see and instead pass them off as make believe. However, for a while, we still hang on to the wonder of Santa and his magical kingdom, and our belief system is strengthened by others reinforcing his existence.

Magic and trust

So, what can we believe? Does our subconscious believe anything we are told? Who do we believe? Who do we trust? We have already pushed aside that friendly voice of reasoning, including our soul and also our imaginary friend, for we have been told that they don’t exist. Consequently, we may think we are all alone, but are we?

What can we do to reinforce the fact that we are psychic beings, that we are in touch with Spirit and that we are not alone? Many of us are waking up to the fact that more exists than we can see with our own eyes, and that science is many years behind our perception. Perhaps, this openness and willingness allows us now as adults to support our children. When our children come up to us and say that they have invited an imaginary friend for tea or that they have been chatting to a Great Aunt who passed to Spirit many years ago or even when they say they recognize a town or house that they have never been to before; perhaps, we can allow and support their belief. By retaining psychic gifts rather than pushing them aside as fiction and not fact, we have the ability to change our subconscious. Our subconscious already holds the blueprint that seeing is believing when in actual fact, we should be reinforcing that believing is seeing. Undoubtedly, if we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.

By strengthening this belief, maybe we can allow the next generation to grow up without limitations and with an open mind as well as with the ability to freely tune into other energies. For who knows, this external magical help may just make our world a brighter place.
