Scientists solve the mystery about the construction of the pyramid of Giza
(Educate Inspire Change) Scientists have managed to solve one of the greatest mysteries surrounding the construction of the pyramids by determining how ancient mankind was able to transport supermassive blocks of stone from quarries located hundreds of kilometers away from the construction site.
Experts were able to decipher an ancient papyrus explaining how the granite blocks and limestone, weighing 2.5 tons each, were transported through paths that spanned 800 kilometers.
According to the deciphered hieroglyphics, around 170 thousand tons of material, used for the construction of the pyramid of Giza were transported through the Nile waters in wooden boats and reached their final destination through a system of channels near the Pyramids.
The ancient papyrus that helped experts solve one of the mysteries related to the Pyramids was found in the port of Wadi Al Jarf.
According to the experts, it would have been written by the person in charge of supervising 40 elite workers. It is considered the only first-hand testimony on the techniques detailing at least one part of the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
The papyrus points to the way ancient builders worked to modify the terrain and open huge dams that allowed water to be diverted from the Nile.
According to experts artificial channels of water were key in the construction process and many of them were built in order to reach the pyramid.
The ancient builders of the pyramids are believed to have moved around 2.3 million blocks of stone needed by tying the massive stones with ropes to wooden boats.
This is a very novel system especially if you consider that the materials were moved 4,500 years ago.
To back up the ‘theory’, archaeologist Mark Lehner discovered evidence of a water channel running under the Giza plateau.
And while this discovery solves a small part of the enigmas that surround the construction of the pyramids, experts are still unable to understand how the ancient’s built such a sophisticated structure in terms of size and precision.
It remains a true mystery as to how the ancient builders of the Pyramid managed to align the structure True North, thousands of years ago.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the most accurately aligned structure in existence and faces true north with only 3/60th of a degree of error. The position of the North Pole moves over time and the pyramid was exactly aligned at one time.
Furthermore, researchers claim that the Great Pyramid is located at the center of the land mass of the earth. The east/west parallel that crosses the most land and the north/south meridian that crosses the most land intersect in two places on the earth, one in the ocean and the other at the Great Pyramid.
