Italians assemble to sing from balconies amidst nationwide lockdown

(Educate Inspire Change | Michelle Estevez) Italy is approaching two weeks of a nationwide lockdown due to safety measures during the coronavirus outbreak. While media often provokes fear frequencies, it is in the power of the people to rise above external forces.

Italians assemble to sing from balconies

Residents joined together in song singing the national anthem, ‘Fratelli d’Italia’ to raise spirits. The balconies and windows are filled with people playing guitar, drumming on makeshift instruments, clapping, singing to the radio, and smiling to one another as they connect. It truly feels like a holiday, an alchemical transmutation of an otherwise fatal event.

There is a lot of information circulating from practicing basic hygiene to false extremities like wearing face masks. The outbreak is real, but it is not an invitation to fall under the influences of fear. This video portrays the power of love and freedom. We are free to choose love. We are free to share love.

This event was inspired by an invitation on social media stating anyone with an instrument to participate from their living space.

According to the World Health Organization, people with mild illness recover in about two weeks, while those with more severe illnesses may take three to six weeks to recover.

The streets are alive in Italy. The metaphorical ship has hit a glacier. However, the music is not the finale. This Titanic does not sink in the voices of love. In solidarity, we sail.
