Why natural flea and tick products?

The EPA just put out a warning about “spot on” flea and tick control products have killed hundreds of dogs.

Flea and tick control products do work but at what cost to your dog? These products cause immune problems, liver problems, nervous system problems and much more.

They also do harm to you because you are around your dog all the time.

This is why natural flea and tick products are so important for both your dog’s and your health.

Here are some great herbal ways of keeping fleas and ticks off your dog and thus keeping your dog healthy and happy — and YOU TOO!

Natural flea and tick products #1 – Rose Geranium Oil

This great oil works pretty good at preventing fleas from jumping on your dog. You can even put it on your pest collar and thus the oil stays on your dog for a long time. Does not work well for ticks but works well for fleas. Essential Oils must always be diluted for use on your pets – remember that.

Natural flea and tick products #2 – Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is safe for keeping away fleas on you dog, just rub a little all over… and it also makes your dogs hair shine.

Natural flea and tick products #3 – Best Flea Shampoo

Make a shampoo of 2 litre of warm water, 1/2 cup of natural liquid shampoo… and add 10 drops each of bergamot oil, pine cedar oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, citronella oil, juniper oil, geranium oil, and eucalyptus oil. Give your dog a bath in this and it will keep fleas and ticks away.

Using these two powerful oils help to repel fleas and they are none toxic when diluted. But you have to apply them all the time… at least 2 or 3 times a week. Essential Oils must always be diluted for use on your dogs

One cup of white vinegar, one litre of water, and 3 drops of cedar oil. Add to a spray bottle and spray your dog 3 or 4 times a week.

Natural flea and tick products #6 – Limonene Flea Killer

Lemons contain a compound called “Limonene” which kills fleas and helps to keep them away. Take 5 lemons and put them in a pot of boiling water and boil for 10 minutes. The let cool and use a flea comb to come this mixture through your pets hair… it kills fleas right away. You can also add a handful of mint to this… and it will help keep fleas away.

Buy organic bar peppermint soap and give your dog a bath with this soap and it will kill fleas… it works on the nervous system of fleas killing them dead without bothering your dog.

Natural flea and tick products #8 – Grapefruit, lemon, and orange

Take the rinds of all three of these fruits… and put them in a food processor and make a thick paste. Rub this all over your dog, he will smell so great and it will keep away fleas too!

Lemongrass oil is powerful and must be diluted and then sprayed on the hair and combed in… works great for fleas and ticks.

Make a 6 inch by 6 inch cotton bag and fill it with cedar chips, one lemon peel, and 3 teaspoons of lavender flowers. Put this in your dogs bedding and it will keep fleas and ticks away.

Cedar oil and cedar chips repel pests… and they do a great job, just make sure to dilute the oil for use on your dog.

Rub bay leaves on your dog 3 or 4 times a week, and the smell of these great culinary spice will keep away pests. You can also add the leaves to their bedding to keep way pests.

Caster Oil has been around for ages and it works well to repel fleas and ticks… just dilute it and use on your dog.

Take 8 cups of water, 2 cups of lemon juice, and 1/4 cup of any kind of a natural shampoo. Mix this all up and use it on your dog… it will keep away fleas.

Cinnamon Oil is powerful and should not be used undiluted on your pet, dilute with water and comb into your dogs hair… works great.

Take 16 oz of apple cider vinegar, add 8 oz of nice warm water, add a teaspoon of baking soda, and a teaspoon of salt. Put this in large spray bottle and spray your dog, and comb it through his hair… making sure not to get it into his eyes because it can sting.

Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder that takes fats away from the outer skeleton of pests like fleas and ticks kills them. Just apply to the skin and it will do a great job and it’s totally non-toxic.

Make a cloth collar to go on your dog that is soaked in a mixture of cedar, lemongrass, eucalyptus, marigold, bay laurel, cedar and rosemary oils that are diluted 15 to 1 with a carrier oil like sesame oil which is also a very good flea repellant.

Take 200 mils of ethanol, add 400 mils of distilled water and 60 drops (60 drops each) of any 3 of the following oils – cedar, lemongrass, bay laurel, eucalyptus, marigold, and rosemary oils – spray this on your dog and comb it in and it will keep away fleas.

Other notes about natural flea and tick products

Remember – Herbal products don’t last as long… and thus must be applied often.

Find what works – Find the right natural flea and tick treatment for your dog… if any of these cause a reaction bath for your dog… try something else. Some dogs are very sensitive and thus you have to find what works for your dog.

Treat outside areas – Treat outside areas that the dog will not be in, where fleas and ticks hide, like under your house… use borax, lime, and diatomaceous earth.

Treat your yard with nematodes – Treat your yard with natural worms called “Nematodes” these microscopic worms eat the larval stage of fleas and thus kill fleas… you can order these on-line.

Buy natural products – There are some natural flea and tick products that you can buy at your local pet shop and on-line. Check what they are made of before before using.

If all else fails and you still have fleas and ticks… make sure to consult with your vet to pick the best alternative that’s as safe as possible.
